The Southern Chinese Lion Dance.

The Chinese Lion Dance is based on a mythical type of lion which has the power to chase away evil spirits. It is a tradition for Kung Fu schools to provide Lion dances for their communities.
The Lion's dance brings good luck and fortune to all those present at the dance. The performance usually starts with the Lion waking from a sleep. He then cleans himself before getting up to explore his surroundings. An offering of a lettuce (the "Greens") is made to the Lion. If he accepts, by eating the lettuce, then this is a sign that the Lion will bestow his gift of good fortune. It is customary for people to make small personal offering in the form of some money in a special red packet.
The South Wales Lion Dance team perform the Southern Lion Dance which varies in costume and movements to The Northern Lion.
