Pontardawe Summer Festival - 2011

This year's performance proved to be even more popular than last year. Despite the poor weather, there was a good turnout of spectators and the rain stopped for our display. The floor was still very slippery but we managed to put on a successful demonstration.

 Summer Course 2011

This year saw the 35th anniversary of the Summer Course and it proved to be has popular and successful as ever. Master Yau led the course with instruction given by John Russell. Andrew Nation and Keith Thomas took the group through arduous kicking and stance training. Morag Quirk provided a specially designed cool down session after the intensity of the "stamping". Each session was rounded off with a period of meditation.

In addition to the training, there are a number of social opportunities through the week. The barbeque evening was very enjoyable and gave students from different clubs the chance to get to know each other. The "disco night" is another example of how well everyone mixed to create the feel of a big family get together. In fact, one of the reasons for the success of the Summer Course, apart from the training, is the great friendly atmosphere between all the students and instructors. Participants come from all over Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England. There was even one person from Poland.

This year's course was held in Llandudno and it has proved to be such a popular venue that next year's course will be there too. The week is a great experience and thoroughly recommended to all students. Check out the pics in the gallery.

British Kung Fu Championships 2011

This was a very successful tournament for our South Wales clubs. A team of over 30 students put on a superb show after training intensely for many months and displayed the high level of skills in traditional Kung Fu in the South Wales area.

The demonstration team performed a number of routines including synchronised weapons forms, two man fighting forms (with and without weapons), stance routines and solo weapons forms. Many weapons were used including the spear and various types and sizes of knives and sticks. The Little Dragons children's group was very well received performing for the first time in front of a large audience.

In addition, the team came back with a clutch of trophies from the various events, which was even more impressive as it was many competitors' first foray into competing.

The successful competitors were: Adam Mainwaring (3rd in Senior Forms, Jonathan Tebbut (2nd Senior Forms and Traditional Fighting), Jerry Owen (3rd Pee Wee), Marc Cole and Aaron Chatwin (2nd and 3rd White to Orange).
